Pitti Uomo and Milan Fashion Week Men’s Spring/Summer 2027: A Dash of Oomph for the Industry
The fashion world is abuzz with the latest editions of Pitti Uomo and Milan Fashion Week Men’s, two of the industry's flagship events. Against a backdrop of supply chain and retail challenges in Italian menswear and luxury, these events are a welcome boost, showcasing the strength and international relevance of Milan and the diversity of the fashion calendar.
As Carlo Capasa, president of the Italian fashion council Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI), notes, this season reflects the resilience of Milan in the face of global challenges. The inclusion of guest designers like Simone Rocha and Ralph Lauren, as well as the debut of Thom Browne in Milan, highlights the city's ability to bring together influential voices in global fashion.
Pitti Uomo, the 110th edition of the fair, returns to Florence with a 'swimming pool' theme, a conceptual installation by artists Philéo Landowski and Pascal Hachem. This theme symbolizes the fluid and uncertain times we live in, encouraging us to 'dive in' despite the challenges. The fair continues to scale despite the adversity, with a focus on supplier education and market understanding.
The guest designer programming at Pitti Uomo is strong, led by Simone Rocha's first-ever dedicated menswear show, which promises to be the highlight of the runway. Rocha's excitement to share her menswear proposition in Florence, playing with tradition and exploring new ground, is palpable. Dover Street Market's DSM Kei Ninomiya will also take the stage, hosting a late-night show concept, while South Korean designer Jiyong Kim will present his unique, sun-bleached garments.
Milan Fashion Week Men’s SS27 brings a healthy dose of newness, with visiting names and fresh brands joining the lineup. Thom Browne makes his Milan menswear debut, bringing theatricality to the refined Italian fashion capital. Ralph Lauren returns with a menswear show combining its Purple Label and Polo lines, a special show in Los Angeles, and a co-ed show in September.
Prada, Paul Smith, Etro, and Dolce & Gabbana are expected highlights, with Zegna skipping this season to present a special show in Los Angeles. Gucci, as usual, will not show during MFW Men’s, opting for a cruise show in New York and a co-ed show in September. Armani designers Leo Dell’Orco and Silvana Armani will present for the first time together for Giorgio Armani, continuing the brand's legacy.
Beyond the big names, Milan offers a rich offering of tailoring presentations in palazzos and private piazzas, with Kiton, Brunello Cucinelli, and Brioni standing out for their exceptional craftsmanship and refinement. Tod’s is also a highlight, combining collection, atmosphere, and crowd for a memorable experience.
The event also supports emerging designers, with initiatives like the Fashion Hub at Fondazione Sozzani providing visibility and opportunities to a new generation of creative talent. The diversity of perspectives and authentic creative voices is what enriches Italian fashion, according to Capasa.
While some may bemoan the lack of newness in Milan's past seasons, the current roster feels right for SS27, a mindful menswear calendar designed for the cognoscenti, containing only the finest men-facing runway brands.
